Blackmale were a New Jersey crew made up of EZ Tee, DJ Reggie
Reg, AD and Woody Wood. They put out this album on the Enigma
subsidiary Ruff House who put out a number of semi-decent and
classic releases in the early 90s. Cypress Hill, Schooly D, The
Fugees, Tim Dog and the Goats to name a handful. Those records
would have a common chief knob turner in Joe "The Butcher"
Nicolo as does this release. Let It Swing from 89 is
actually a pretty decent album. It does have throw away's though
like those late 80s Hip House type cuts but the good shit really
shines. The title track "swings" nicely with jagged
samples thrown on top of a JB's instrumental while AD has a delivery
similar to Rakim. C'mon, C'mon, C'mon, C'mon!! is one
of those rare pure Hip Hop instrumentals with DJ work that actually
made the album. Other fast paced highlights include Keep Movin
and Let's Go.
Center Stage On The Mike is a call to all Rappers to
take it to the stage and toss there Kangol in the ring with the
Blackmale posse. "The best place in the world I love to be,
if not the bedroom is the M-I-C" should let you know how
serious they take their profession. This one shouldn't be too
difficult to track down as it used to be a cut out sure shot.
