What a great comp! Basement Flavor showcased all the
talent on the First Priority record label which was home to the
early work of Alliance, King of Chill, Positive K, Audio Two and
MC Lyte. Peep the cover. No ice or fancy cars... it's just all
about young, down to earth cats bringing you that late 80's Hip
Hop in it's purest form. Even lookin at the back cover you see
everyone in a school gymnasium's bleachers giving the impression
of a tight high school clique. There's some great joints on here.
You get two nice Alliance cuts, Get On Down and Kibbles
and Bits, which don't appear on their full length. You also
get the classic duet from Positive K and MC Lyte, I'm Not
Havin It, plus a couple of winners from Audio Two.
The ill cut here is by DJ Soul Shock featuring rapper See-Que.
Que definitely makes the party swing while Soul Shock rips the
wax on what sounds like a Donald Byrd trumpet stab. Not sure if
he ever released anything else other than this nugget. Overall
this is a solid compilation and one that is getting tougher and
tougher to find.
